The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is mourning the loss of its third volunteer, Aysenur Eygi, who was killed during a protest in the occupied West Bank. Eygi, a 26-year-old American citizen, was shot in the head by Israeli forces while attending a demonstration against Jewish settlement expansion in the town of Beita. The incident occurred on Friday and has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for accountability.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated they were “looking into reports that a foreign national was killed as a result of shots fired in the area.” The IDF claimed that Israeli forces responded with fire toward an individual who posed a threat by hurling rocks. “The details of the incident and the circumstances in which she was hit are under review,” the statement added.
Jonathan Pollak, an ISM volunteer, described the events leading up to Eygi’s death. He stated that the protest had ended, and there were no active clashes when Eygi was struck.
